at my local NTB. He did excellent work, and their policies regarding customer presence in the shop was excellent. In fact, they had goggles at the door to the shop, with a sign saying "We invite you to watch our techs work on your car". Unfortunately, the last time I was there, their policies changed for the worse, and I was hassled about it. The tech still did excellent work, but due to their poor management, they've lost a customer. On the other side of the spectrum, I went to a specialty alignment shop where the techs used a string and a plumb bob to align the car instead of computers. They did jack squat for me, saying I needed $800 worth of work to correct a dead upper control arm bushing. My point is, I have experienced excellent service in the past from the chain shop. And I have experienced lousy service from the "specialty" shop. This just goes contrary to your "the chain store will always fuck it up" theory. You're simply taking an elitest attitude and making blanket statements.
